TJ Douglas is a New York-based singer-songwriter who has been steadily creating music for decades. Their style blends folk with indie and lo-fi elements, creating deeply personal, reflective songs that address loss, identity, humanity, and vulnerability. Douglas first gained attention with their 2015 debut album Joey, which reflected on growing up trans before that was a public category; and further solidified their presence with Our Lady Star of the Sea, Help and Protect Us, which they wrote while attending divinity school.
Douglas' most recent album, Dying, reflects on the emotional and existential landscape of their work as a palliative care hospital chaplain (one without a particular religion), creating a love and grief filled exploration of life and death.
Douglas' work is often noted for its raw emotionality, simple yet evocative instrumentation, and a delicate balance of hope and sorrow.
