Live @ The Yard: Gwen Laster New Muse 4tet Album Release
The jazz strings super group, New Muse 4tet, featuring Gwen Laster (Violin), Teddy Rankin-Parker (Cello), Melanie Dyer (Viola), and Andrew Dury (Drums) hit The Yard stage, presenting their new album "Keepers of the Flame"
Gwen Laster was in conversation about Joseph Campbell’s book “The Hero's Journey" with her yogi buddy Melia, and found herself wondering if there was a ‘Hero's Journey’ for African Americans. It turned out that there was, and Clyde W Ford’s “The Hero With an African Face” became not only a personal inspiration but also a direct influence on Gwen Laster’s New Muse 4tet’s upcoming album Keepers of the Flame (May 10, 2025, self-release).
Born in October 2015 and founded by Violinist/Composer Laster, Gwen Laster’s New Muse 4tet’s artistic expression speaks to the people as an improvising 4tet offering 20th and 21st-century new works and original compositions as a vehicle for social activism. Commissioned by Arts Mid Hudson, Gwen’s "Black Lives Matter Suite" premiered shortly after the inception of New Muse 4tet and continues to draw in audiences and critical acclaim. As traditionally trained players who evolved into improvisers and composers, they are rooted in the philosophy that improvisation is the highest form of freedom and create dialogue, self-expression, and original works steeped in music from the African diaspora. New Muse 4tet's members are Gwen Laster, violin, Melanie Dyer,- viola, cellist Teddy Rankin Parker and Andrew Drury on drums and percussion.

Live @ The Yard: Advance Base, Kristin Daelyn, and BODEGA DOG
- Advance Base is the melancholic soft rock recording project of Chicago, IL singer/songwriter Owen Ashworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). Using a two-handed arsenal of electric piano, Omnichord, samplers, effect pedals & drum machines, Ashworth builds minimalist, heavy-hearted, & nostalgia-obsessed ballads around his conversational baritone. The warm, electronic sound of Advance Base has been described as "lo-fi," "depressed" & "weirdly uplifting."
- Philadelphia-based indie folk artist Kristin Daelyn combines intricate fingerstyle guitar with poetic lyricism to create a world of nostalgia and introspection. Grounded in folk, her sound feels familiar but explorative, evoking quiet moments and a tender space for solace, presence, comfort and deep connection. Her music acts as a mirror, helping listeners access emotions and insights that may feel just out of reach, offering a heartfelt invitation to embrace their inner worlds.

Live @ The Yard: Twen w/ Special Guest Grumpy
$22 in advance $25 at the door
Twen is a van-lifeing rock band that emerged onto the east coast music scene in 2017 with their distinct blend of shoegaze, indie rock, and post-punk influences. Though the band was formed in 2016 by lead vocalist Jane Fitzimmons and guitarist Ian Rollins Jones, their emergence post-pandemic has marked the beginning of what is essentially an entirely new project; save for their keeping the name “Twen”.
Heaven, front person of Grumpy, keeps their friends close and their exes closer. The keyboardist and bassist are Heaven’s ex girlfriends, the drummer is their ex-husband (the guitar player and Heaven never dated but when they first moved to New York Heaven had a crush on Diego and there was one night when they thought they might kiss but they didn’t). Juicy, right? It sounds scandalous but really it paints a picture of the deep intimacy Heaven has with their collaborators. When Grumpy plays, the stories being told have a realism that can only be created when the songs are performed by the people they are about.
